The details 📝

After spending a week in Singapore, we weren't really "craving" any sorts of food. But landing on a cool and crisp day - and feeling a bit lazy, we decided to venture out to try a new Vietnamese eatery in Applecross after seeing foodie friend @leenthefoodie post about it.

📍 908 Canning Hwy, Applecross WA 6153

Delish Pho & BMT is a relatively new Vietnamese restaurant which opened in early 2022. The restaurant itself is small and comfortable.

Upon stepping in, we were greeted with some of the friendliest and warmest service we've had ❤️. As far as orders go - we opted for their com suon dac biet (combination grill pork chop rice), pho, banh mi and of course, Vietnamese iced coffee.

The pho was on point. The noodles used have a slight chew to them and the broth ran just a pinch saltier than sweet savoury.

🐖 Com Suon Dac Biet $15.3 - combination grill pork chop rice

The com suon dac biet is essentially a com tam or "broken rice" without the actual broken rice (normal rice grains are used). This gives the dish a slightly different overall texture. Paige found the pork to be nicely charred, juicy and tender. The combination of the bi (shredded pork) and cha lua (Vietnamese sausage) provided nice textural contrast.

🥖 Banh Mi Thit Dac Biet $9 - delish special baguette (Vietnamese cold cuts)

The banh mi was served on crusty bread and your typical fare of Vietnamese cold cuts and garnish. I was feeling a little under the weather and could only finish half. One of the staff members kindly wrapped it up for me.

☕️ Cafe Sua Da $5.5 - Vietnamese iced coffee

We washed everything down with their cafe sua da or Vietnamese iced coffee. The Vietnamese iced coffee was deliciously well balanced with hints of caramel and slight bitterness.

We restaurant features around half a dozen tables of various configurations. The counter seating is spacious and we appreciated small details like the bag hooks.

Before wrapping up, the biggest elephant in the room is the pricing - which is steeper than what you'd usually expect to pay for Vietnamese food. But we think the prices are justified and more than reasonable - given the quality of the food, the lovely service and comfortable interior and ultimately, the area the restaurant is located in.

Overall, we're glad to have discovered a south of the river Vietnamese restaurant which rivals those found in the city and northern suburbs, given the northern suburbs like Girrawheen, Morley and Mirrabooka are commonly associated with large populations of ethnic Vietnamese and, lots of good Vietnamese food. Food and service were excellent and we think this place will save many the need to travel for good Vietnamese food. Those living near Canning Bridge are in for a treat!
