Hifumiya is Perth's first udon house which opened in May 2018 by Daisuke Hiramatsu. Kurashiki (located between Hiroshima and Osaka), Daisuke-san's hometown and the birthplace of bukkake style udon was the inspiration for Hifumiya. To date, Hifumiya is our go-to when we're craving udon.

Daisuke san's vision behind Hifumiya is to be the start or something great.

The name Hifumiya literally translates to "one two three". According to Daisuke-san, the "one two three" has a deeper meaning - numbers begin and continue forever, representing the growth and development of Hifumiya. At night, the "growth and development" of the restaurant continues, as it morphs into Jigoro - a Japanese izakaya (Japanese style bar). Continuing with the numbered theme, Jigoro literally translates to "four five six".

Hifumiya features over a dozen variations of udon, from traditional to more contemporary creations. Our preference for their udon is their bukkake style (get your dirty minds out of the gutter 😉) cold udon. The layout of Hifumiya mirrors udon shops in Japan - you order by the kitchen and your bowl of udon will be made in front of you (more info on ordering can be found here).

🍜 Pork Kimchi Bukkake Udon (L) $14.8

Our go to order is their pork kimchi bukkake udon, a customer creation during their Udon Idea Challenge in 2019. We love the contrast between the spicy miso and cold noodles.

Prior to the pork kimchi bukkake udon being on the menu, our go to was the spicy miso pork bukkake udon.

🍗 Toriten Bukkake Udon $14.8 (L)- karaage chicken, lettuce, tartar sauce, bukkake broth

The toriten bukkake udon is refreshing on a hot day.

Beef Curry Udon $14.8 - stewed beef, Japanese curry, kake broth

When it gets a little colder, we get the beef curry udon. Eating this udon really tests how little mess you can make on your shirt.


Sides

If a large bowl of udon (serving sizes here are decent) isn't enough for you, a range of sides are also available. The sides we normally get change based on what we're feeling, but usually we can't go wrong with the takoyaki (octopus balls), croquette or spam musubi.

When asked about ambitions for Hifumiya, Daisuke-san doesn't have any huge ambitions. However, one could argue his aspiration of Hifumiya being a gateway for customers to experience aspects of Japanese culture and to ultimately develop an interest in Japanese culture, to be the biggest ambition.

  • Hifumiya operate under Jigoro Izakaya every night, except for Sunday.
