The details 📝
Though we don't often get cravings for fish and chips (probably less than a handful of times a year), when we do, we visit Jinny&Co.
Jinny&Co is a small, family run fish and chip store which opened up in late 2020 and is named after the original owners' daughter, Jinny. Throughout the menu, you'll find references to their cute four legged pals - Coco 🐶 and Momo 🐈⬛.
Ownership changed hands in July 2022 when the original owners moved to Sydney. The shop was quickly picked up by Linda - a chef with years of experience (including a number of pubs and Crown's Epicurean). Linda juggles both front and back of house duties, with her mother and sister also helping out.
*Fun fact: Linda got to know the original owner through her side business of making beautiful flowers in balloons (some wizardry if you ask me).
Ownership changed again in March 2023. In charge now, is Erika, who previously spent time as a chef at May Street Larder for many years.
Differentiating Jinny&Co with other fish and chip stores is the clean and trendy interior and the unique inclusion of some Korean items on the menu. The modern and bright interior is inviting, making you want to actually stay and dine-in instead of just coming in for takeaway.
One of the things we enjoy about the fish and chips at Jinny&Co is they aren't overly oily. We find the fish flakey with a light batter.
The fish tacos had a delicious chipotle mayo which helped to clean the palate.
The deluxe Jinny's burger is an excellent value proposition at the price of $15, which includes a side of fries. Look at that cheese!
One of our favourites were the cheese sticks. For that extra bit of cheesiness, Linda has decided to coat them in a delicious, cheesy, monosodium glutamate-y* cheese powder you might've had on cheesy variants of Korean fried chicken.
*No, MSG isn't bad for you. Check out this article for more info.
Differentiating Jinny&Co is the addition of Korean items like Korean fried chicken and bingsu.
We previously enjoyed the bingsu at Jinny&Co 1.0 and can report that it still maintains a quality which is comparable to other Korean dessert joints. The green tea ice-cream on it was a highlight - balancing a nice level of sweet and bitter. On subsequent visits, we've tried their strawberry and mango bingsu which were just as great.
