The details π
tl;dr: get their soy ramen. Dosukoi / Komatsu serve up one of our favourite soy ramen broth in Perth.
Before talking about Komatsu Ramen, we have to talk about Dosukoi Ramen, which is one of the OG ramen stores in Perth.
"Dosukoi" opened their original Fremantle Market store in 2007. A second branch opened up years later in Allendale Square which surrounded slurpers* with volumes and volumes of manga, but unfortunately has since permanently closed.
*Fun fact #1: slurping ramen is not considered rude and is perfectly acceptable).
Dosukoi Ramen still operates within the Fremantle Markets (Friday to Sunday). The store is tiny. The size of the store is rather intimate and it makes us reminisce about the small Japanese AirBNBs we've stayed in.
At most, Dosukoi probably holds a dozen people. It does get busy on the weekends (up to one hour) which is a testament to their great ramen. During peak time, Dosukoi staff will take down your number when you order and will text you when a table is available - so you're free to explore the market while you wait.
Late last year, Dosukoi opened up their sister store - Komatsu**.
*Fun fact #2: komatsuγε°ζΎγmean "small pine tree" Japanese. This the same "komatsu" used in the name of the heavy equipment manufacturer.
Komatsu is located in the FOMO dining precinct which opened in late 2021. Plenty of communal seating is available, meaning guests won't have to wait for tables π !
Like Dosukoi, Komatsu exclusively sells ramen along with karaage chicken and takoyaki. Shoyu (soy), miso and shio (salt) broth is available. Nearly a dozen different variations are on the menu, each with different toppings.
Our go-to order at Dosukoi is their shoyu ramen with soft pork on the top and we found the shoyu ramen at Komatsu to taste the same. We love the shoyu ramen here as it has a delightfully smoky and charred flavour - almost like if wok hei was applicable to broths π₯.
Servings do run on the petite side - so we suggest adding extra noodles or pork if you have a larger appetite.
