The details 📝
Note: La Madonna Nera's menu changes seasonally. We visited in early January 2022.
There is never a shortage of wine bars around Perth, but there are a number that shines among the rest. The Italian wine bar, La Madonna Nera, located on the food strip on Scarborough Beach Road in Mt. Hawthon, is one of them and offers a predominantly Italian selection of wine. La Madonna Nera features dishes that incorporate a fusion of classic and contemporary influences, based on produce that shine with the season. The interior of the restaurant is dark, moody and intimate which makes for a cosy dining experience.
We started off with the Shark Bay prawn focaccia. The dish reminded us of the famous crab toast at Le Rebelle.
Next up, was the finocchina. Finocchiona, aka fennel salam, paired perfectly with the whipped ricotta and the tanginess of the fermented grape.
Onto mains - we selected the tagliatelle, which was perfectly al denta and made for a smooth slurping experience.
We finished with our favourite dish, the bistecca (aka porterhouse steak). It was utterly delightful, and one of the better steaks we’ve had at a wine bar so far - it was cooked perfectly and was well rested, and we enjoyed the smokiness of the peperonata.
The service was also excellent, and we particularly appreciate our waiter who gave us a great recommendation from their line-up of Italian wines. We definitely recommend reserving a table as the restaurant is small and they tend to be fully booked!
