Mellow Coffee is owned and operated by TJ - a Korean chef with over 10+ years in hospitality. In addition to serving brunch favourites, Mellow's menu features a number of Korean influenced dishes.
Our eat of the week is Mellow Coffee's buldak wings - essentially lollipop chicken wings with cheese fondue. Buldak means "fire chicken" in Korean - so we opted for a non-spicy version of this (especially given the fact Paige and I aren't ones to chase spice).
We absolutely loved the cheese fondue which was light and was ingeniously kept warm using a small candle. Pickled radish helped to cleanse the palette between each bite.
The other dish we ordered was Mellow's bulgogi quesadilla. Eating this brought back memories of an old favourite - Mix Perth. Mix Perth used to be a small Korean Mexican outlet located in Equus Arcade which we used to frequent throughout our university days. The owners have since moved back to Korea.
The bulgolgi quesadillas where well balanced - where each cheesy, meaty bite was met with a hint of spice from the jalapeños.
Burgers
One of the more unique items on Mellow's menu is their chilli cheese prawn burger. For us, this burger brings back memories of Japan - where we'd love to eat ebi katsu (prawn cutlet) burgers at places like Maccas or Mos Burger. The burger was well balanced, with the jalapeno and chilli sauce lending a helping hand to cut through the cheese.
The AC "American cheese" burger was equally as memorable. It's not everyday where you get potato rosti in your burger. Adding a thick chunk of rosti made for an airy crunchy texture which also soaked up all the delicious beef juices.
Both burgers featured a generous amount of sauce on the side, as well as a side of chips.
Mellow also uniquely offers hand crafted soda which is available to enjoy dine-in, or served to-go in sealed aluminium cans. At time of writing, a buy 3 get 1 free offer for their hand crafted sodas is available.
We also enjoyed a slice of Mellow's basque cheesecake which was light and rich in flavour.

What's the best time to go?
Mellow Coffee is an intimate cafe. It is best avoid lunch time on the weekend if time is an issue.
