WEEKLY DIGEST 100 | 05 APR 2024
Our 100th newsletter!
So I lied.
Part 2 of our Japan travels is still not out yet π . It's currently sitting in our drafts and is 1/3 complete. It'll be out.. once it's done π .
In more.. optimistic news, this is our 100 newsletter that I've sent out! I'm grateful for all 70+ of you that are subscribed and regularly read my ramblings β€οΈ. Thanks to everyone who clicks on the ads too - it keeps Pekopeko (which costs just under $200 a year to run) to be self sustaining. And don't feel bad if you're using an AdBlocker. I'm using one too.
Back to food!
We're planning to hit up either Katzu Katzu or Swan Sushi (which looks to be Kou Sushi, reborn) this Friday. As for this weekend, nothing's planned, so we'll see where our cravings take us.

ββThe Best Thing We Ate βοΈ
Izyan Malaysian Cuisine
To kick off the extra long Easter weekend, we hit up Spencer Village. It's a place we probably should visit more often, given how close we are.
Paige's pick for dinner was nasi lemak which hit the spot! Food here was reasonable for the money.
Unfortunately Google Reviews don't seem to be kind to this place. When it comes to food and reviews encourage you to trust your tongue and form your own opinions first, before seeing what others think (I say this ironically as a food blogger yes, but I'm always happy to talk about food - good or bad).
What We Ate π΄
Badoyell
OG followers might know that Badoyell was one of the very first places we ever posted back in mid-2019.
I've only had niu rou mian once - and that was here years ago, so I can't comment how their dish here compares to other bowls in Perth. But given they've been around for neary half a decade, they must be doing something right. Each bowl came with a generous amount of beef.
I also grabbed a side of chilli cucumber ($7) and chilli pork wontons ($10) as well.
Shun Japanese Cuisine
After mains, comes dessert. I found out about Shun Japanese as a recommendation from my barber (shoutout to Ken-san at Samurai Barber). The Japanese chef-owner is a trained French chef and also bakes cakes that are available for order.
The Japanese pudding (A.K.A. purin) was reminiscent of what we've had in Japan, while the un-pictured slice of basque cheesecake ($3.8) was a perfect balance of rich and creamy, without being overpowering.
Canteen Pizza
Good Friday dinner was courtesy of Canteen Pizza, which was one of the few options (aside from fish and chip stores) open.
Canteen's funghi photographed nicely. It's probably one of my favourite pizza shots I've taken!
Our favourite of the night was the pizza speciale. We'll be posting about Canteen Pizza later this week, so stay tuned.
Brown Spoon Cafe
Thanks for Brown Spoon Cafe for being open on Good Friday πββοΈ.
Having gone to Cake by Cake last weekend, I wasn't really craving bingsu again, so cake it was.
Unfortunately my first pick of their matcha forrest cake and second pick of honeydew melon cake (if I'm recalling it correctly) were sold out by the time my order went through, so injeolmi it was.
I'd get it again! It gets the "not too sweet" accolade. Also, how cute is the π¦?
Artem Coffee
Rounding up our week of eating is an old favourite on semi-regular rotation - Artem Coffee.
I can't come here and not get their reuben, which was delicious as always.
A new-ish menu item for them is their mazesoba. It was an alright bowl of mazesoba. We think it could use a little bit more of a fatty element, as flavours leaned on the tart and acidic side. Though, flavours were well balanced once mixed with the beautiful ramen egg.
