β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Goods Bakery (via Modus Coffee)

The best thing we ate this week were Goods Bakery's cruller donuts. They're also conveniently available at Modus Coffee, so I knew I had to grab some when I caught up with some friends there on the weekend.. πŸ˜‹.

What We Ate 🍴

Bob Jo

Lately we haven't really been exploring and trying out new restaurants. Bob Jo is an exception to that. It does help that Bob Jo is a quick 10 minute drive from us.

Donkatsu $24 - Korean-style thin pork cutlets, with creamy Korean gravy sauce served with rice & coleslaw

The favourites from our visit include the donkatsu and their fried chicken. We did also order kimchi fried rice, but unfortunately it wasn't anything to write home about (our favourite kimchi fried rice goes to Hansik).

The donkatsu was massive - probably the size of your hand . Paige and I think it can likely comfortably feed three or even four, so we'd suggest sharing it.

Bob Jo's fried chicken was good as well. We opted for the cheese sauce flavour. It's probably not a flavour we'd get again as it wasn't super impressionable, so next time we'll try the soy garlic.

Nao Ramen

Miso ramen with large noodles and chashu $22

Last weekend we were in the city running some errands (a.k.a. getting my suit sorted for the wedding) and when it came to deciding what was for lunch, we had no idea what to do πŸ˜‚. A first world problem indeed.

Guess there's old, trusty, Nao Ramen, right?

Instead of my usual shoyu ramen, I opted for their miso ramen. In my life, I've probably frequented Nao Ramen over 50 times and have never been disappointed.

And yes, I used the floor for this photo. Concrete floors make for especially nice food backgrounds!

For more on Nao Ramen, check out our post from a while back.

Nao Ramen (Perth)
One of the OGs in the Perth ramen scene, serving up lighter broth variants of ramen and offering guests the ability to customise their bowl of ramen to their hearts desire.

Chicken on Charcoal Flame

We ended the week with a meal at Chicken on Charcoal Flame, where we caught up with our friends over at @openprojectstudio (highly recommend them if you're after a quality wedding and event content creator).

This time, Paige and I tried the lamb shawarma and charcoal chicken. Paige enjoyed the shawarma and reckons its more enjoyable than Cairo Cafe's rendition of the dish. For me - I've been wanting to try the charcoal chicken here since my first visit.

The verdict.

It was passable but not my favourite charcoal chicken. I think On Fire Charcoal Chicken still ranks as my favourite for charcoal chicken (which we probably found a little bit juicier, though we'd probably have to try it again as we're comparing from our memory).

Also, having had tried a number of items on their menu now, we reckon the go to carb to get is their brown rice instead of chips. Reason being is we think it just soaks up the flavours of your protein better. The chips are very well seasoned too, if you end up getting them.
