WEEKLY DIGEST 111 | 21 JUNE 2024
A well priced, big burg. π
This weekend we'll be hitting up Chicken on Charcoal Flame, squeeze in some banh mi and, if we get there before it sells out, hopefully squeeze in some short rib pho at Thanh Dat (it's definitely pho szn now).
Late week we ate:
JM Burgers
Uncle 6 Nanyang Hawker
Rojiura Curry Samurai
Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King
Cargill Cafe
Everything but Rojiura Curry Samurai was shot on the Ricoh GR IIIx this week. Rojiura Curry Samurai was shot on the trusty Sony a7iii and the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8.

ββThe Best Thing We Ate βοΈ
JM Burgers
Craving burgers on Sunday night, we initially wanted to return to the newly opened Milky Lane at Curtin.. until we found out they have a 10% Sunday surcharge. Luckily, JM Burgers is only a short drive away (coincidentally it's on the way to Curtin too).
The first and last time we were at JM Burgers was years ago. Having done my menu perusing ahead of time, I gravitated towards their JMB Deluxe. I left pretty satisfied after eating this burg and think it's priced very fairly, with places like BurgerFreak and Milky Lane charging a couple dollars more for their similar burger.
JM Burger's JMB Deluxe is exactly what you'd imagine - filling. Best for those with big appetites. I know it's going to be my local go-to, when craving a big burger.
What We Ate π΄
Uncle 6 Nanyang Hawker
Paige and her parents returned to Uncle 6 Nanyang Hawker. This time she was behind the camera and did a great job too! The pork mince BBQ pork noodles gets a pass from them.
Rojiura Curry Samurai
Rojiura Curry Samurai is probably the only place in Perth where you can find up to 17 different types of vegetables in a single dish π. Their soup curry makes for an excellent winter warmer. The pricing is a little on the pricier side, but I think it's a fair reflection of the effort that's put in to make the curry from scratch.
Not pictured - but I got the chicken 17 (chicken Maryland with 17, yes, 17, different types of vegetables) at spice level 3. With soup curry, you spoon the rice into the soup and enjoy it as if it were a soup. Level 3 ended up being a tad too spicy for my palate π₯΅. But I finished it in the end!
Eating here brought back memories of our recent trip to Japan where we had soup curry in Sapporo π₯Ή.
If you haven't been yet, be sure to read our article on Rojiura Curry Samurai.
Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King
Another place we haven't been back to in a while is Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King. We dropped in at 11:30 am on the weekend, just before the lines formed.
While tonkotsu broth still isn't my favourite, I found the broth more stomach-able and not as overly rich compared to the last couple of times I've had it. The chashu here is my least favourite part of the bowl, as it does run pretty lean and on the dry side.
Cargill Cafe
Cargill Cafe is a Taiwanese restaurant located on Cargill Street in Vic Park. It's a place which was been on our radar for many years. But it's also one that we've just never dined at, until last weekend - where I went with a friend who frequents it regularly.
Food here gave a homey, comforting vibe. My favourites were the Taiwanese three cup chicken and the fried chicken cutlet (reminding me of T4's fried chicken). I'll be back!
