Last week - two new eats.

This week, we'll be returning to Omakase Haku for the fourth time (I have yet to post our third visit from last year..), checking out a new poke place in Leedy and finishing up the weekend with a pizza night with friends.

With the exception of The GOGI Korean BBQ (Sony a7iii and Tamron 28-75mm f2.8), everything this week was shot on the Ricoh GR IIIx.

β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

The GOGI KOREAN BBQ 2024

Close up of a raw slice of high marbling wagyu
Premium wagyu set A $197 - Marble wagyu MBS 8/9, marble wagyu MBS 6/7, oyster blade MBS 6/7, wagyu rib finger MBS 6/7, Korean pancake, green onion salad & choice of kimchi stew or soybean paste stew

Best thing we ate this week goes to the marbled wagyu at The GOGI KOREAN BBQ 2024. On a side note, does anyone know why some Korean businesses like The Sushi 2016 (yes, they are Korean owned) put the year they were.. opened (my assumption) in their name?

The newly discovered Korean BBQ place is 15 minutes from us. Meat quality is probably comparable to our usual - Marubang in Northbridge. Though maybe Marubang has the bigger of menus. Being more accessible, we'll definitely be making another trip back at a later point.

Check out Paige's post over on Instagram for more info. It's also located to G'Day Korean restaurant - a place that's next on our list to try out.

What We Ate 🍴

Two Slices Sandwich Bar

For lunch on Saturday we decided to trek it all the way up to Scarborough to get some hot focaccia sandwiches from Two Slices.

These fluffybois were large. And we ordered three, cause we wanted to make our visit worth it πŸ˜‚ (don't worry, we managed to finish them all). Our stack of sandwiches came out swiftly, despite a seemingly long queue out of the door (on arriving around 12 pm ish). Of the three, the favourite was the chopped cheese. We'll go more into depth in a couple weeks when we post.

On their menu, they also do have some fun drinks - espresso creme latte and a pistachio cream iced matcha latte (reminding us of the drinks at Overlay Coffee in Melbourne). But unfortunately they had sold out for the day. We'll be back to try these drinks.

Oh, and there's also handy free parking out at the back (from memory it was either 30 or 60 minutes).

Izyan Malaysian Cuisine

2 meat 1 veg $19 - Lamb rendang, beef rendang and beans & tofu

The best thing about Spencer Village is it's a great place to grab a later lunch, as many outlets here are open until 8:30 pm or so (do check kitchen closing times).

Once again, I found myself at Izyan Malaysian Cuisine. The 2 meat 1 veg dish was alright - nothing to write home about. I just regret not getting a fried chicken wing! Not pictured, the sneaky trip into Master Chang's to grab some egg tarts and curry puff afterwards πŸ™ˆ.

Authentic Bites

If you're ever unsure of what to get at Authentic Bites, take note, here's our usual order between us.

Before we start - we suggest visiting their Karrinyup branch instead of their Northbridge branch. We've found the lines to be much shorter (during peak times) and parking to be more accessible (and free).

Close up of xiao long bao
Steamed juicy pork xiao long bao 8pc $15.5

Authentic Bites probably serves up some of our favourite xiao long bao in Perth. Be sure to get the pork xiao long bao, then enjoy them with soy sauce and some vinegar. Pro-tip - drink the broth from them first, then dip in sauce and enjoy.

Top down shot of wantons with spicy peanut sauce
Pork & prawn wonton in spice sauce $16.5

A staple order for us are the pork and prawn wontons in a spicy peanut sauce. Don't worry, it's not spicy. I did find this to be a little on the richer side, so I would suggest pairing this with rice.

Close up of steamed dumplings
Boiled kimchi & pork dumplings 12pc $16

Unexpectedly, my favourite dumplings of the night were the boiled kimchi and pork dumplings. After having the wontons, these acted enough like a palate reset / cleanser.

Top down shot of beef brisket noodles with Chinese vegetables, carrot and noodles
Braised beef noodle soup $17.5

To fill up, my go-to dish here is the braised beef noodle soup. You get lots of beef brisket in this bowl of hearty goodness. Also is a great winter dish for said reasons.

Last but not least, you gotta eat your vegetables.

Yo-Chi

We've been wanting to return to Yo-Chi for some time to try out the Pistachio Papi sauce they had. Turns out that collab ended end of May as Pistachio Papi sold out at all Yo-Chi stores! Guess we'll have to go back once it's restocked.

Top down shot of chocolate and strawberry froyo with a sour strap, jellies, choc chips and corn flakes
You pay what is weighed

25 minutes of lining up later and roughly $12 later, we have our dessert for the night. The chocolate and strawberry flavours here are our go-to flavours.
