β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Omakase Haku

Unsurprisingly, the best things we ate were at our visit at Omakase Haku. Our visit this time set us back $220 for 20 courses, which was well worth it.

A5 wagyu meatball, foie gras and miso yuzu kosho

My favourite for the night, and the eat of the week, was his A5 wagyu meatball with foie gras and miso yuzu kosho. It was an incredibly well balanced bite - the yuzu kosho (yuzu pepper) cut through the decadent A5 wagyu and foie gras. The meatball paired well with rice, which gave the dish texture.

The ultimate "flex" was amaebi, hotate, uni and caviar served in a sheet of nori.

What We Ate 🍴

Ghee Brothers

Ghee Brothers was brought to our attention by friend of the blog, Praka from OverTime The Podcast. For any watch nerds out there, be sure to follow Praka's pod as they focus more on the affordable and micro brand watch space.

Paige and I ordered three things to share. Fish curry banana leaf rice, mee goreng mamak and lamb murtabak.

Fish curry banana bang set $15

Paige's usual order is fish curry. She found the fish in her serving to be on the drier side while everything else on the plate was fairly standard. Perhaps other curries are better?

Mee goreng mamak $14.5

When in doubt, order the mee goreng. On initial glance, our serving was on the wetter side. Flavours ran heavily towards the sweet side, making it something we probably wouldn't order again.

Lamb murtabak $16 - soft dough stretched super thin, then filled with seasoned ground lamb

What we would order again, is their lamb murtabak - which we agreed was their best dish during our visit. In fact, we'd come back just for it.

Being located south of the river, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to Malaysian Indian food. Our overall verdict? Ghee Brothers for us is more on the miss, rather than being a hit.

Makai Poke

Last but not least, our visit to Makai Poke.

The talented folks over at Bento Box Studio organised a "foodie" event (essentially a media event) last Sunday at Makai Poke, a new poke place in Leedy. They did an incredibly great job running the event and I say that as someone who's delivered their fair share of workshops back in my corporate days.

Dan Dan Beef - kale, pumpkin, edamame, beansprouts, dan dan sauce

No pricing on these as.. we honestly forgot to take note of them πŸ˜…. From memory, they run around the $15 - $16 mark. The favourite during our visit was their dan dan beef, most likely cause it was a unique take and flavour on poke (poke typically comprises of raw fish).

We'd love to see more varieties of fish on the menu, so fingers crossed!
