ββThe Best Thing We Ate βοΈ
Ten Minas
Friday night was spent with a couple of friends where we revisited Ten Minas - an Asian fusion cafe that just launched their Italian x Japanese menu for dinner the same night.
The unanimous favourite dish of the night, was the bone marrow pasta dish - hero marrow. This pasta was a deliciously rich dish that paired beautifully with the tomato-y sauce.
We dined as a group of five and ordered five dishes to share. I definitely know that I'll be back to try this dish in its entirety again!
Coming in second place, was their 24hr slow-cooked beef. Each bite was tender and soft and we appreciated the accoutrements on the side. Our only piece feedback - it could use a pinch more salt, but otherwise had a lovely sear and was nicely presented.
What We Ate π΄
Suzie's Makan Place
Surprise, surprise, we're back at our favourite local Malaysian-Indian restaurant (we craved curry, ok).
This time around Paige tried the mutton murabak. It compared similarly to Ghee Brother's version of it, which we tried last week.
For me, I tried their egg prata biryani combo, instead of my usual combo which comes with normal prata. As expected - the egg prata was more filling but still should be manageable for most. Portion sizes - specifically the biryani, understandably seem a little smaller, likely given inflation. Regardless of shrinkflation, we'll still be coming back as the food is consistently delicious.
The reason we wanted to drop into Suzie's was actually to try their newest concept, This Waffle Slaps, for a sweet treat afterwards (at Suzie's Makan Place). As the name implies, they offer waffles.
Unfortunately, their waffle concept wasn't ready when we visited last Saturday. The owners tell us they'll be available this week though - so by the time you read this, hopefully this concept is live.
We're keen to try the butter & kaya waffles next time we're in! π€©
Good Food & Wine 2024
On Sunday we dropped into the Good Food & Wine show. The first thing we ate was a Crayfish roll from Eco Abrolhos cruises. It was simple - yet delicious.
Not pictured - the copious amounts of food we sampled and a couple of purchases like..
- Biltong from Cape to Cairo (wet and fatty biltong),
- Blocks of Sartori cheese (merlot, balsamic and one that I can't remember) from Smelly Cheese Co
- And a four pack of canned espresso martinis from Curatif (I'm not a huge drinker, but these were yummy).
The General Store
Having tried what we wanted to try at the show - I left somewhat hungry.
My hunger left me scratching my head as I drove home - thinking "it's 3 pm ish, what do I get for 'lunch'". Then I remembered - I had been craving a conti roll of sorts for some time. So we swung by The General Store to grab one.
The lunchtime lines at The General Store can be around the 30 minute mark, based off previous experience. I was glad to find none upon arrival.
My pick this time around was The God Father, which is essentially your typical conti roll on steroids. Namely, a couple more cheeses and cold cuts, turning it into a more substantial sandwich. It's also the only sandwich I probably get from The General Store.
Cravings satisfied.
Fun fact - I took the shot over the kitchen. Looks great above our black kitchen sink!
Delish Pho & BMT
And to wrap up a weekend of eating, we have Delish Pho & BMT. Located only a short drive away from us.
Our last visit to Delish Pho & BMT probably in 2022, at their Canning Bridge branch. They've since opened up in Willetton.
The broth here runs clean. Delish Pho & BMT's menu is little more intimate compared to your typical Vietnamese restaurants, but they're one of the few places that do banh mi for dinner, should that be your craving.
