ββThe Best Thing We Ate βοΈ
Mortadeli
Mortadeli's mortadeli sandwich was the best thing we ate last week, and probably the best sandwich we've had all year. The soft fluffy focaccia paired so, so well with the creamy straciatella, mortadella and pistachio cream.
We dropped by on Saturday around 1:30 pm and waited around 25 minutes for our sandwiches. Another visit has already been planned to try out more of their menu when we're in the city next. Paige also bought meatballs with polenta for a later lunch, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
The second sandwich we got was the porchetta. Both Paige and I strongly preferred the mortadeli which was a lot easier to eat and bite through.
What We Ate π΄
Azabu
Azabu had their media night last Thursday night. Thank you to Kento for having us! At time of writing, the pictured dishes are off-menu dishes that were served on the media night.
Shanghai Street
After inhaling a couple slices of sashimi and wagyu at Azabu, I dropped by Shanghai Street with Alex from @alexperthfoodie and Mary from @food_and_i_for our second dinner.
I appreciate that the xiao long bao here are served with some ginger. Reminiscent of how they're served at Din Tai Fung.
The beef noodle soup was light. Given my hunger levels, I probably would've preferred something heavier!
Note pricing is from their Melbourne menu as the Perth menu was unavailable at time of writing.
Swan Sushi
On Sunday I made my second visit to Swan Sushi was with a couple friends. This time around, it was for lunch. I found the curry prawn don to be a fairly reasonable serving size for the money and my friends were greeted with a massive mountain of karaage π.
Sashimi was fresh.
I don't usually like using words like "must order", but this miso eggplant is a dish we always get here. It's also probably the only time I'll ever eat eggplant π .
Swan Sushi still maintains good food quality. We've been told the same kitchen team from Kou Sushi is still in place.
Tiger Baekban
Ending the week we have the recently opened Tiger Baekban in Willetton. We weren't able to secure a booking for four over the phone, so we tried our luck by going there at 5:30 pm. And we were successful (our backup plan would've been.. Slow Dough Pizza).
Having said that, by 5:45 pm, the restaurant was essentially full house. Lots of early diners!
Tiger Baekban predominantly serves sets which do err slightly on the more expensive side. But I guess you pay for the variety. Not pictured, bossam, which was great and probably is comparable to Marubang's version - our favourite one.
Overall, the four of us each enjoyed all our sets here. We'll likely be back, especially given how close it is.
