ββThe Best Thing We Ate βοΈ
Cafe Eighty2
The best thing we ate this week was Cafe Eighty2's miso cream pasta. One of the pastas we constantly go back to is Ciao Italia's ciao italia fettuccine. This reminds of us of a slightly more elevated version of it. It's apparently also been on the Cafe Eighty2 menu for a long time. A dish that won't ever leave the menu, owner Amy tells us.
We were invited to check out Cafe Eighty2 - thank you to Amy and her team for the generous hospitality!
It's been a very long time since we've gone out for brunch and we're glad it was at Cafe Eighty2.
We do occasionally get invites to check out new cafes. But most of the time we decline invites unless the menu interests us. At risk of sounding a bit like an asshole - time is something you'll never get back. And each calorie you eat should be intentional as well.
With my rant over - Cafe Eighty2 is one of those places with a menu that captured our attention. The quality of food reminds us of an old fave (no pun intended) cafe that we miss quite a lot - Fave Floreat.
As I write this, the bulgogi brisket actually reminds me of Paige and I's first ever date, back at tbsp in Bayswater. I think I must've ordered their beef brisket benny back in the day too!
We'll write up a dedicated post up for Cafe Eighty2 over the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
What We Ate π΄
Roasting Warehouse
Last week's second and final invite was from Roasting Warehouse - previously Port City Roasters. The Perth branch is part of a handful of cafes located throughout the world, with the HQ in Melbourne and cafes in Athens, LA and SF.
I opted for the eggs benny chan - their signature brunch dish. It was a delicious take on the classic eggs benny. Texturally, I enjoyed the crispy roti and the tangy yet creamy sriracha hollandaise.
So the reason we were invited was to check out their Mont Blanc! A delicious coffee and orangey drink. Dip the lady fingers in, and you're basically halfway to tiramisu.
Fun fact - Roasting Warehouses' beans are roasted in Melbourne and are then shipped throughout Australia and the world.
At Home Coffee Co
Congrats to our friends Kartika and Gershom for opening up At Home Coffee Co π. I dropped in on a Friday morning and was met with a full house. Not bad for the first week of business!
Sally over at Perth Is OK! did a great interview with Kartika which you can check out below.
"The menu will slowly grow", says Gershom. There are also plans to eventually allow the space to be rented out and man - I can already seeing myself hosting some sort of larger event, in this super cosy, homey space.
No tasting notes on the eggs as my friend got them.
The iced hoji was good - though I'd prefer the hoji to be a little stronger. Not bad at all though!
Upperhand Burgers
My final work lunch was at Upperhand Burgers! In Perth, we're fortunate to have a myriad of great burger options. That means, unfortunately I won't be returning to Upperhand Burgers as I found this burg pretty standard. Something like Bad Love Burgers would be my preference if i was around the area..
Mortadeli
I promised Paige we'd go back to Mortadeli. So after burgs with the boss, we swung by Mortadeli to pick up a sandwich or two. Needless to say, I was comfortably full on Friday afternoon.
Hangang
As if two back to back sandwiches was not enough food for Friday - we ended our Friday by checking out Hangang's all you can eat KBBQ.
Meat quality was decent, though anecdotes suggest the quality was as little higher when it opened up earlier this month. We did have to wait a little bit for the wagyu to replenish.
Hangang is run by the folks behind Marubang - probably our favourite KBBQ joint. They've also got an opening special until 30 September 2024 where theres a $10 discount on their all you can eat, setting you back $70pp (2 hour limit).
Simple Italian Cucina Pizzeria
So, we're getting married next month! After our pre-wedding / engagement shoot on Saturday, we had no idea where to dine for dinner. Luckily, Simple Italian in Applecross was able to accommodate the two of us without a booking π«Ά.
Whisked The Right Wei
Ending this week - some pastries Paige picked up while I was at Upperhand Burgers. My favourite of the two was the pistachio brulee tart.
Now that was a long newsletter. Thanks for reading!!
