Visit count

It's taken me a year count up all the places we went to in Singapore and Japan πŸ˜†.

We checked out 3 new places in Singapore (Birds of Paradise, Cicheti and Miamiam). While in Japan, we documented around 30 places in Japan across the 10 or so cities we visited.

If there's appetite (pun totally intended) from you guys to hear more about these places, I'll happily put them into a list 🫑.

As of 3 January 2025, the total metrics for 2024 are as follows:

β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Omakase Haku

πŸ“ Near Vic Park

Close up of crab
Snow crab

We had our fifth visit to Omakase Haku a couple weeks back which was yet another delicious visit.

Close up of hand holding scallop with caviar placed on top
Hotate & caviar
Close up of crab meat with uni sauce
Snow crab with crab roe sauce

The favourites were the snow crab dishes.

Close up of ice-cream with caviar on top
Caramel ice-cream, extra virgin olive oil & caviar

We ended on a caramel ice-cream paired with extra virgin olive oil and caviar. A great combo!

What We Ate 🍴

Phoever

πŸ“ 280 Bannister Rd, Canning Vale

Hand holding banh mi cut open
Traditional banh mi $9

Lunch on the day after Omakase Haku was something a lot more affordable.

Hand holding banh mi cut open
Roast pork banh mi $10

Charim

πŸ“ Shop 7/375 William St, Perth WA 6003

Top down shot of stainless steel plate with Korean dishes in smaller stainless steel plate
Bulgogi $55

Charim is a new Korean restaurant located towards the Brisbane St side of Northbridge. The restaurant itself is a "gisa sikdang" - a taxi drivers style of restaurant.

Uncle ChatGPT says this:

For those ever so inclined, you can read more about gisa sikdang below.

Jeyuk $55

The menu here is petite and we did find it a little on the pricier side for the serving sizes. Unfortunately the proteins for both our dishes were a little overcooked and a tad sweet for our liking.

Top down shot of pork jowl, lettuce and side condiments
Bossam pork jowl $30
Top down shot of noodles with seaweed on top
Perilla oil noodles $25
Top down shot of seafood Korean pancake
Seafood pancake $25

Wagyu mandu $15

On Fire Charcoal Chicken

πŸ“ Shop 24/120 Yellowwood Ave, Harrisdale WA 6112

Top down shot of charcoal chicken, rice, salad, chips and garlic dip
On Fire Deal $55 - whole chicken, chips, rice, salad, garlic dip & Lebanese bread

On Fire Charcoal Chicken has opened up a second store in Harrisdale (same shopping centre as where Once For All is). Flavour wise, everything is consistent with their Como branch. The Harrisdale branch also much better suited for dining in too. On Fire Charcoal Chicken still remains as our pick for charcoal chicken in Perth.

Two Hands Noodle Store

πŸ“ 4/2 Downey Dr, Como WA 6152

Top down shot of hand holding a bowl of noodles with mince beef, egg and vegetables
Pan mee (R) $13.5

Old trusty Two Hands Noodle Store. Not pictured - the char siew bao I also ordered.

H&C Urban Winery

πŸ“ 181 High St, Fremantle WA 6160

Close up shot of cheeseburger and chips
H&C double cheeseburger, pickles & chips $28

H&C Urban Winery's cheeseburger was one of the more memorable and delicious cheeseburgers I've had in 2024. Visited as part of my friend's bucks party.

Beautiful restaurant was well!

Kuld Creamery

πŸ“ 11 Essex St, Fremantle WA 6160

Hand holding ice-cream in a cone
Roo trax (peanut butter cups & chocolate fudge) + homemade cone $9.5

Thank you to Marv for comping a scoop of ice-cream! The side windows outside the store made for some nice and soft, diffused lighting. Kuld Creamery is one of the few places which make their own cones too. Also dropped in as part of my friend's bucks.

Tiger Baekban

πŸ“ 10/113 Collins Rd, Willetton WA 6155

Our second visit to the nearby Tiger Baekban. Yukgaejang was yum.

Two Slices Sandwich Bar

πŸ“ 2/23-27 Scarborough Beach Rd, Scarborough WA 6019

Hand holding sandwich with ham and lettuce
Mr. Pistachio $20 - mortadella, pistachio cream, stracciatella, rocket & fresh pistachios

Our last meal out in 2024 was at Two Slices Sandwich Bar. We opted for the lighter Mr. Pistachio before finishing on the Chopped Cheese. Sandwich wise, we think Mortadeli in Nedlands gets our vote for "favourite sandwich bar" in Perth, but we appreciate the more contemporary offerings at Two Slices Sandwich Bar.

Top down shot of hand holding a sandwich with mince beef and cheese
Chopped Cheese - chopped beef, American cheddar, onion, capsicum & cheese sauce

Not pictured - their trending pistachio cream latte. We ordered the smaller $6 portion by mistake and found it was more than enough for both of us to share. It had a pistachio-y, almost pandan like taste which did become pretty rich quickly. Probably not something we'd get again, so we're glad we didn't get the full size pistachio cream latte ($12).
