The Best Thing We Ate ⭐️
Onomichi Ramen Mitsuya
📍 Shop 3, Ground Level, 100/104 Murray St, Perth WA 6000
We ended last week with our second visit Onomichi Ramen Mitsuya at the new-ish Ginza Nana Alley. One of the best parts is, Onomichi Ramen Mitsuya is open until 11 pm - perfect for late night ramen runs (not too many restaurants open til late in Perth).

Their Mitsuya original ramen was the best thing we ate all week.
It's probably one of my favourite bowls of ramen I've had in a long time. Onomichi style ramen is a type of shoyu (soy) ramen with a fish based dashi (bonito, as owner of Ginza Nana Alley, Daisuke tells us). It gives each bowl of ramen a light and umami rich taste.
Pockets of fatty meat gives "heaviness" to the otherwise light slightly salty broth. At $19 a bowl, this is a steal as well - given it comes with an egg.

Gyoza here were good and on the larger side.

Ramen aside, their chahan (fried rice) was great. It hit the spot. It had good "wok hei" (no better word to describe it). It did taste a little bland after having the ramen - but that could be a result of my taste buds being out of whack after having the broth, which runs slightly salty.

Summarised thoughts in the article below!

What We Ate 🍴
Off Licence @ Beaconsfield Wine Bar
📍 4B/115 Lefroy Rd, Beaconsfield WA 6162
On Friday night we visited Beaconsfield Wine Bar to try Chef Drew Dawsons pop-up, Off Licence. Chef Drew previously worked in a handful of kitchens in Freo, including Peggy's and Nieuw Ruin.

Our fave of the night - his spinach and ricotta ravioli & parmesan sauce. Great texture and flavour. Great balance. I probably could've inhaled three or four servings of this.

We've been told he'll be there for a couple more weeks, so be sure to get in soon. Looking forward to eating more of his food!
Layers Bakery
📍Shop 10/29 Station St, Subiaco WA 6008
Despite working across the road from Layers, our last visit here was years back.

Croissants were flakey and crispy. Probably one, if not the best we've had in Perth.

Paige was a fan of the mortadella pesto pistachio pizza, but I didn't enjoy it was much. Maybe it was the crispy crust. Maybe I was expecting something completely different. Pesto was good though!
Uncle Lam
📍 243/253 Walter Rd W, Morley WA 6062

Saturday family lunch was at Uncle Lam. My thoughts in the article below.

Satchmo Cafe
📍410 Fitzgerald St, North Perth WA 6006
If I see a reuben on the menu, I'll order it. Simple.

How does this compare to my all time favourite reuben at Artem Coffee (Mount Pleasant)?
Satchmo wins in pricing. For $21 you get a pretty hefty serving of pastrami. At time of writing, Artem's will set you back $28, though much of the cost could be attributed to the 150g of house smoked brisket.

Taste wise, Satchmo's runs more tart. Artem's runs a little on the richer and less acidic side (my preference) while not being too heavy.
Overall, Artem's reuben still reigns as my favourite - mostly due to personal preference. If I was in the area - I wouldn't hesitate to stop at Satchmo for this sandwich.

Reubens aside, Satchmo specialises in Jewish cuisine with a bit of a New Orleans flair. Think bagels, hoagies, gumbo and matzoball soup. All very hearty, homey, soul food.
Consolidated post.
