WEEKLY DIGEST | JUL 26
We revisit a lovely family run Korean fish & chip place that also serves up bingsu, dine at a new Willetton brunch joint, feast on mochi donuts and slurp up some ramen.
We checked out five places over the last week. It was our first time checking out Brown Spoon's new branch in Willetton.
This week we have:
Jinny & Co
Brown Spoon (Willetton)
Mimochi
Home cooking!
Tosaka Ramen
Update on the website
Our website publishing platform, Ghost has recently introduced native search functionality. This means you can click on the "search" button on our site (the rest is self explanatory). Yay!
Eddy rant: the technology consultant in me would prefer if it was an icon next to the subscribe button, but this is a good enough MVP (given the functionality constraints with our current non-Ghost-pro plan with Ghost).
In case you missed it โจ
Be sure to check out our Bay Nine Omakase article. It probably has the most number of photos in any of our website articles!

Jinny & Co
The eat of the week was our meal at Jinny & Co on Friday evening (we were craving fish and chips). Jinny & Co was previously run by a lovely Korean couple and their daughter, Jinny but has since changed hands as the original owners moved to Sydney. Don't fret - a new Korean family, who are arguably, just as lovely, have taken over. The interior of the place is clean and modern and probably, one of the few fish and chip stores you'd actually want to dine in at instead of just coming for takeaway.
You'll find your typical fish and chip fare on the menu as well as tacos (fish and vegetarian), burgers (beef and Kentucky fish ๐คฏ - which we're super keen to try) and bingsu, Korean shaved ice. We're looking forward to coming back soon!
Be sure to check out our article later this week. In the meantime, check out our post from last year on Instagram.
What We Ate ๐ด
Brown Spoon
Brown Spoon has opened up in Willetton! During the day they offer your typical cafe fare, trending on more Asian fusion brunch dishes. You'll also find their range of drinks and desserts. What's great is those living within 6155 now have a dessert place open til 9pm!
For those interested in the menu at Brown Spoon.
Our favourite of the two dishes was the kimchi eggs in hell. We would've loved it to be spicier, given the "in hell" moniker as well as more butter (a small cube wasn't enough!).
We unfortunately didn't rate our serve of the loco moco (to date, our favourite one in Perth is at Panda & Co, all time fave goes to Pacific Rim #RIP). The egg was delicious and runny, but we found the hamburg steak to be on the very well-done side and tough, while the rice and sauce was served on the lukewarm side (granted, we did take maybe 1 - 2 minutes taking photos, but warm rice from a rice cooker should retain heat longer than that).
Mimochi
Mimochi have moved to Vic Park (coincidentally very close to Brown Spoon's Vic Park Branch). You'll find their usual yummy mochi donuts for sale.
They tend to sell out all the time, so we'd highly recommend ordering for pick-up. Our favourite flavour is their matcha (reminiscent of matcha Pocky) mochi donuts followed by their earl grey.
For more info on Mimochi, check out our post on Instagram.
Home cooking!
Paige and I made a saffron risotto on Saturday night with a serve of chicken ๐.
Tosaka Ramen
For Paige and I, tori paitan ramen (chicken broth) > tonkotsu ramen (pork broth). We used to love tonkotsu but over the years, have found the rich, porky flavour to be a little too rich. If you like rich ramen, Tosaka Ramen is for you. Expect to queue for this one.
Admittedly, $25 for a bowl of ramen ($22.5 without extra egg) is a little steep, but you'll get a delicious slab of fatty pork belly cha-shu (probably one of my favourite cha-shu in Perth) and a juicy slice of chicken cha-shu (likely sous vide), with a broth you'll want to drink all of (it's that good).
