WEEKLY DIGEST | 22 NOV 22

When in doubt, eat a burger.

WEEKLY DIGEST | 22 NOV 22
BurgerFreak's Aussie Osbourne

We checked out four places over the last week. It was our first time checking out BurgerFreak last week.

BurgerFreak
Kou Sushi
Momo Dessert Cafe
Boba Boba (Belmont)

We're kind of back on regular programming now. If you followed us last week, you'll know we had a couple issues getting our newsletter together (some photo upload issues). I'm happy to say that.. It's sort of fixed. We managed to find a workaround which works. Hopefully the issues get resolved though!

In case you missed it ✨

Bibra Lake Lunch Bar (Bibra Lake)

β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

The best thing we ate last week were the burgers from BurgerFreak. Aside from typical beef / fried chicken burgers, they also have a couple of other interesting burgers known as "stuntburgers". As part of their "stuntburgers", you'll find burgers with popcorn prawns, pork belly and more!

It was a decently warm (until the wind hit) Saturday when we dined in, so we soaked up the sunshine. Shoutout to the vibin' music they had playing - lots of 90s and early 2000s rock (in hindsight, pretty much the catalogue of songs from the Guitar Hero III soundtrack..)!

Aussie Osbourne $20 - smash patty, streaky bacon, double American cheese, fried egg, grilled pineapple, beetroot, diced onion & Peggy Sue's BBQ & aioli

The Classic $13 - smash patty, double American cheese, freak'n burger sauce, B&B pickles & diced onion

When we crave burgers, we usually get burgers from HoodBurger in Applecross. Paige found the smash patty to run a little drier compared to theirs, but the burger was stil enjoyable.

Top down shot of loaded fries with mushrooms, cheese, chilli sauce and garlic cream sauce
Garlic truffle shuffle loaded fries $18 - truffled shrooms, haloumi, shredded cheese, truffle garlic butter, garlic cream sauce & chilli jam

The fries here must be mentioned. For us, these fries are our second favourite in Perth - with first place going to Juicy Buns' rosemary fries. We loved the truffly goodness. The sauces on the side keep things interesting - with a slightly creamier sauce and also chilli jam, to cut through any heaviness.

I get my haircut in Belmont and I'm pretty sure I've just figured out where I'm going to be going for lunch, after my haircuts now.. (for the foreseeable future).

What We Ate 🍴

Kou Sushi

We revisited Kou Sushi with some friends for dinner. They've just re-opened after some time off to focus on some medical related things (please be kind to them). The food's still good as ever!

Char grilled chicken teriyaki don $18 - rice with char grilled chicken teriyaki, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower & bean sauce

Our friend opted for the char grilled chicken teriyaki. We can confirm there was a char, alright

If you've yet to visit Kou Sushi, we highly recommend you do so. It's probably been our most frequented Japanese restaurant this year.

Kou Sushi (Rivervale)
A suburban Japanese restaurant that has quickly become a new favourite of ours offering well executed and plated dishes with generous servings.

Momo Dessert Cafe

Our location right now is great. We're located to a number of great eateries, and it appears that more and more places are sprouting up. Momo Dessert Cafe is one of them. We love yoshoku (Japanese western food), which is what this place serves up.

Volcano beef rice $22 - rare-medium rare roasted beef eye fillet, served on top of steam rice, raw egg yolk, tamanegi soy, micro radish & wasabi yoghurt
Strawberry latte
Iced strawberry latte $7

Paige loved the iced strawberry latte. It tasted like strawberry milk!

Momo Dessert Cafe (Willetton)
An Asian dessert cafe offering Asian desserts and drinks (think croffle, bingsu, cakes and more) and yoshoku udon and sando during lunch.

Boba Boba (Belmont)

Last but not least - Boba Boba. We made a pit stop here after downing the burgs at BurgerFreak and after a quick visit to Mirai Mart in Belmont. This time, we tried their green apple Yakult and grape galaxy.

Grape Galaxy $7.5

Grape galaxy was reminiscent of grape bon bon.

Purple boba cup with "Boba Boba" written on it and a cartoon character drinking boba
Green apple Yakult $7.5

Green apple yakult tasted like.. What the name implies. Slightly yoghurty, with the refreshing Granny Smith apple tarty goodness.

Takeaway dinner night!

To finish another week of eating, we got together with some friends and grabbed some fried chicken from Hansik and some lovely, marbled wagyu from Clover Butcher.

Snow cheese chicken

Between four, we absolutely overordered with fried chicken. We got two flavours - honey mustard and the snow chicken. Snow chicken was my favourite!

Kimchi fried rice

We're semi regulars of Hansik. Unfortunately this time around, the kimchi fried rice had an overly burnt taste (we love our wok hei, but this tasted a little too burnt). It's not going to stop us from going back though.

Marbled wagyu grilling on an electric grill

Our friend had a handy electric grill, which made grilling the wagyu a delight.
