Mellow Cafe's kimchi smile

Three cafes this week and our first time at Cairo Cafe. Our image uploading issue on Ghost seems to have been miraculously fixed. Yay! Touch wood - let's hope it doesn't break again though 😅.

Mellow Coffee

Kimchi cheese smile $23 - kimchi fried rice, garbi hamberg, creamy mozzarella cheese, fresh egg yolk on top

Mellow Coffee's probably been our favourite brunch cafe we've frequented this year. It was also our first article on the website! For our third visit, we tried their special - the Kimchi Cheese Smile. Be sure to grab it while TJ and his team serve it up!

Sous vide steak sandwich with cheese $27 - crispy sous vide steak, cheese, caramelised onion, tomato relish, aioli, lettuce, tomato and fried onion on Turkish bread with a side of chips and aioli sauce

While Paige enjoyed the kimchi cheese smile, I was craving something sandwichy. The sous vide sandwich hit the spot.

We visited Cairo Cafe with our source for all bubble tea news, @brb.bbt and her partner. Our favourite during the visit was the lahm shwarma.

Lahm shwarma $24.9 - shredded lamb marinated in special spices, briyani rice and salad

This place gives us Little Lebanon vibes - a favourite of hours for generous, filling portions. We'll have to give their chicken a try next time!

Eggplant with yoghurt $12 - skinned fried eggplant served with yoghurt dressing

Gourmet mixed platter $29.9 - chicken, lahm and kofta skewer, fries and salad

Momo Dessert Cafe

Kinako soy shaved ice with vanilla ice-cream $16.5

All good evenings end with dessert. So after dinner at Cairo Cafe, we popped into Momo Dessert Cafe (that's a lot of cafes in an evening). We've been to Momo Dessert Cafe a couple times now and have tried their yoshoku udon and a number of their desserts.

Black sesame Shibuya honey toast with black sesame ice-cream $14

After our visit last week, we can gladly say their shaved ice (bingsu), honey toast and croffle are on par with what you'd find in Korean dessert cafes out in the city (which saves lots of us the drive out!). If we were to nitpick, perhaps Momo Dessert Cafe lacks the homey atmosphere of a place like Cafe Guilty Pleasure, but from a food perspective, there's probably not too much different.
