β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Hitomebore

Hitomebore is a short-grain variety of Japanese rice which is bred in the Miyagi prefecture. It's also the name of Kukan Izakaya's new concept.

Hand holding up ten don
HITOME Ten Don $34 - anago, prawn, seasonal veg, onsen egg & nori (comes with salad, tsukemono, miso soup and sweets)

On the menu you'll find a range of rice focussed dishes and some dishes from their old Kukan Izakaya menu (including some of their old desserts).

Hand holding a bowl with various sashimi cuts
HITOME kaisen don $35 - tuna, salmon, kingfish, whitefish, scallop, octopus, prawn, ikura & tamago

Expect food here to be quality - as one would expect from Chef Evan, who has experience from the kitchens of Nobu and more.

We'll probably write up an article on Hitomebore at some point - so stay tuned.

What We Ate 🍴

Hancookwan

Assorted raw red and white meats on a plate
All you can eat KBBQ $42

For a birthday dinner, we popped into Hancookwan for KBBQ. They have a reasonably priced all you can eat option for $42 per person with a decent amount of sides.

Yiamas Greek Taverna

The fit-out at Yiamas Greek Taverna is snazzy. Be sure to check the toilets. No really.

We usually do our due diligence on places before dining in. This was no exception. The 4.5 star rating gave us a good idea of what to expect. The food here however, left us underwhelmed. Flavours were lacking, so we're reluctant to revisit.

From a review perspective, it does seem like Yiamas Greek Taverna inherited what used to be Georges Meze - a pretty well reviewed Greek restaurant. explaining for the high 4.5 star rating.

Yo-Chi

Dessert was had at Yo-Chi, following dinner at Yiama.

lululala

Lululala is small Korean run cafe in Northbridge, best known for serving up their bagels and Asian style drinks. Pricing for the drinks is pretty reasonable.

Close up of pink coffee cup with a green straw
Iced matcha $7

Pantano

Close up of arepa with egg, beef patty and salad
Arepon $26 - beef patty, bacon, fried egg, shredded beef, string fries, coleslaw, onion, tomato, lettuce, double cream cheese, salsa de la casa & tomato relish

Rounding out a week of eating is Pantano. This time, we tried one of their arepas. Delicious!
