Pelican Croissanterie

Mentaiko baguette $6.5

Pelican Croissanterie is one of Perth's newer bakeries to open. We visited around 11:30 am last Saturday and picked up one of their mentaiko baguettes. The baguette was still oven warm, and it had a perfect balance of bite to crustiness and was deliciously buttery. The folks behind Pelican Croissanterie are Japanese - so expect a couple Japanese elements sprinkled in.

They do also have a range of baked treats you'd expect, but to get those, you'll have to get in quick. They probably sell out within an hour or two of opening on weekends!

Now, we just wished we picked up one of these each!

Baked Pork Chop in Tomato Sauce with Rice $18

Cha chaan teng, or Hong Kong-style cafes undoubtedly serve up a rather eclectic range of food. Our pick here is usually any of their baked pork chops.

Sizzling Steak Meal C $35 - Jumbo Mix Grill with pork chop, chicken chop, sausage, chicken wing, mushroom sauce, garlic bread +$1 for cold drink

For variety, Paige opted for the sizzling steak meal, which easily could've fed two.

DJ's Willagee Lunch Bar

Charcoal grilled banh mi $9.5 - charcoal grilled pork, fresh salad, coriander, chilli (optional), housemade mayo, pate and hoisin special sauce

DJ's Willagee is on our usual rotation of banh mi places. They've recently launched their charcoal grilled banh mi - which is similar to a char siew (BBQ pork) banh mi. It runs a little on the sweet side given the nature of char siew.
