ββThe Best Thing We Ate βοΈ
Pantano Bar
If you tuned in last week, you'd remember Pantano Bar was our backup choice for lunch (but it was sadly closed). We finally were able to drop by for lunch last weekend.
I satisfied my burger cravings, while Paige satisfied her taco cravings. Their La Willy was the best thing I ate all week. It is on the pricey side for a burger, but the nearly half-dozen different proteins justifies the price tag I think. Despite this, the burger didn't feel heavy at all.
Paige thoroughly enjoyed her tacos. Not shown in photos are also four house made sauces available at Pantano Bar (the bacon one is Paige's fave!).
What We Ate π΄
Super Souper Ramen
The team behind Super Tetsudo and hamoni have opened their newest ramen restaurant - Super Souper. We go in depth in our article.
Mistelle
Mistelle opened up in Shenton Park earlier this year in May. Previsiously, the French bistro was situated in Bickley Valley. Two menus here are offered.. A "Tuesday Test Kitchen", where diners get three courses for $55pp served in an shared, omakase style - as the courses are dictated by what is available and also their a la carte menu - three courses for $75pp.
We managed to land a booking on a Friday evening. Portion sizes are well.. What you see is what you get (I'm personally not a huge drinker, but I imagine many glasses of liquid calories on the side may temper one's hunger).
Both of us, having worked at a place one could consider "on the finer side of dining" were a little disappointed to see the big smudge in the cured salmon that probably should've been sent back to the kitchen to be re-plated or wiped away. Being big fans of Japanese food, the cured salmon was just alright.
Our friends ordered the house-made charcuterie which seemed like a reasonable spread.
My favourites for the night was probably the grass fed beef shortrib and the poached pear dessert.
The Paris mash was creamy and delicious.
As for desserts, the poached pear seemed to be the better pick.
Unfortunately both serves of the creme brulee we had on the table came out with a curdled custard which didn't make for the best of experiences.
We had heard lots of good things about Mistelle. but it was a shame a number of small things added up to an experience which didn't meet expectations. An off night, perhaps.
Bentori
Bentori is a relatively new Japanese restaurant that serves up rice bowls and a number of teishoku (set meals). The restaurant itself is brought to you by the folks behind Brown Spoon (stores in Willetton and Vic Park).
One of the things you'll find here, that don't find too often on menus is hire katsu. Hire katsu is tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) from pork tenderloin, while normal tonkatsu is known as rosukatsu (coming from the pork loin). Hire katsu, is generally a less fatty cut than rosu katsu despite being more expensive due to its leanness. In our experience, it did run on the drier side, as expected.
The dish of the night was probably their nasu dengaku (eggplant in den miso).
More on Bentori on our feed soon.
