β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Mimochi

Hand holding a paper container of fried donut balls topped with Nutella
Mimochi bites $12 - nutella

The best thing we ate this week were Mimochi's bites.

When it comes to fried donuts, we strongly believe these fried mochi donut balls are hands down superior to loukoumades (Greek donuts) πŸ˜‰. We're also glad Mimochi is open until 9 pm on Fridays to Sundays (with plenty of mochi donuts still available at night)!

What We Ate 🍴

Train to Pocha

Top down shot of raw beef on a metal circular pan with enoki mushroom on side
Bulgolgi hotpot $45

Train to Pocha is a relatively new addition to Perth's Korean food scene. You'll find a range of Korean street food available on their menu. Seating at the restaurant itself is pretty intimate - so be sure to book ahead.

Brown Spoon

Hand pouring condensed milk onto bingsu which is topped with red bean and mochi and roasted soy powder
Injeolmi bingsu $15.9

After stumbling out of Train to Pocha, we made our way towards Broon Spoon, our dessert destination for the night (on the way there, we inhaled a serve of Mimochi's bites too 🀭). Brown Spoon seems to have renovated since we last visited, some time ago and still remained busy on a Friday night.

Reel Kitchen

Top down shot of lambchops coated in tabbouleh
Herb crusted lamb cutlets (2 pieces) $22 - Sumac, preserved lemon tabbouleh, labne

On Saturday night, I attended a function held at Reel Kitchen in DoubleTree (Waterfront by Liz Quay). I'll be honest - it comes to hotel restaurants, one is never sure what to expect.

Top down shot of porterhouse steak with potato, broccolini and port jus
Dry aged (32 days) porterhouse $49 - 300gm, Stirling Ranges, WA

The meal I had at Reel Kitchen however? It was good. Everything was done on point, with the highlight being the juicy, dry aged porterhouse steak with an incredibly rich port jus.

Top down shot of creme brulee with dehybrated orange
Orange crème brûlée $15

Authentic Bites (Karrinyup)

Close up of xiao long bao in steamer
Truffle pork xiao long bao $18.5

We ducked into Authentic Bites on Sunday night for a quick, pre-Oppenheimer dinner.

Our last visit to Authentic Bites was a couple weeks back, and we can confirm that the food quality across both Authentic Bites stores seems consistent. The best part of the Karrinyup branch we think, is easier (and free!) parking and potentially shorter wait time.

Dry noodle with pork mince $15.5
