β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Yip Bamboo Noodles

Yip Bamboo Noodles is the newest Malaysian Chinese restaurant to pop-up in Vic Park. The best thing we ate this week goes to their bowl of dry noodles with char siu BBQ pork. The bowl of noodles was done to a good standard.

Top down shot of a plate of noodles in dark soy sauce with Chinese vegetables and a plate of char siew pork
Dry noodles (dark soy sauce) $9.8 & Chef’s Signature Char Siu BBQ Pork $9.9

We lined up for around 65 minutes on Sunday, so we'd probably wait a couple weeks for the hype to die down if you're time poor. Or try visit during a weekday instead.

What We Ate 🍴

Sundays Everyday

Top down shot of bento with Hamburg steak, chicken katsu, salad, katsu sauce, rice, miso soup and mayonnaise
Combination bento C $21 - chicken katsu, Hamburg steak, rice, salad and miso soup

Japanese is probably our favourite, go-to cuisine when we're not sure what to eat (probably reflects our 90s / 2000s upbringings). Sundays Everyday serve up.. fairly generous servings, and that's by my standards. The rice alone was piled up higher than Mount Fuji's 3776m summit.

Pork katsu $16 - crispy deep fried pork fillets served with rice, salad and miso soup

Both Paige and I felt a little bit yeet hay after eating our bento featuring lots of fried chicken and pork. This segways nicely into..

Bobaboba

Pink Guava Crush $7.9

Bobaboba's opened up a new store in Hulme Court. You really are spoilt for options when it comes to bubble tea here now. We opted for some items off their new menu which refreshed our palates, after our fairly substantial lunch.

Bobaboba's done an excellent job with the marketing leading up to the opening of this store. Homages have been made to Hulme Court's role in the car community.

Amongst the car community, Hulme Court has served as a meet place for enthusiasts since the early 2000s - where Utopia was the bubble tea joint of choice. These days, it's not uncommon to see people meet here before or after cruises.

Malted Milo waffleshake $15.0

My Grill Friend is a Halal American diner restaurant based in Morley. The kitchen here's open til 11 pm weeknights and until 1 am on Friday to Sunday. New on their menu are a range of desserts that we're sure would go down well with their range of comfort food.

Hand holding a waffles stacked three high with Biscoff biscuits and ice-cream
Banana Biscoff waffle tower $17.9 - three tier waffle stack with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, Biscoff, salted caramel, crushed Biscoff biscuits and bananas

Keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming post. Thanks for the My Grill Friend team for having us!

Shanghai Street

Last in this week's newsletter is Shanghai Street - a Melbourne born xiaolongbao and dumpling restaurant. The restaurant quietly opened last week and had their official grand opening on Sunday. Stay tuned for our thoughts!
