β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Sumiya Gin

Wagyu at Sumiya Gin

Our last visit to Sumiya Gin was in April 2019 - a very long time ago! We're pleased to confirm that the food here is as delicious as we remember it being.

Sumiya Gin, being a Japanese BBQ restaurant serves up a delicious range of proteins. Our favourites here are any of their wagyu cuts. All their cuts feature beautiful marbling. The best thing we ate this week, naturally goes to their wagyu.

What We Ate 🍴

Goods Bakery

Paige celebrated another trip around the sun last week. To celebrate, we grabbed some pastries from Goods Bakery again (she's in love with the cruller donuts here and she reckons they're as good, if not better than the ones from Short Stop over in Melbourne and Sydney 😝).

Honey Cruller $5 (top) & Coffee Cruller $5

Tommy's Tacos

Achiote fried cauliflower, pippian, coriander & lime $18

We finish the week with Tommy’s Tacos, a pop-up Mexican joint headed Tommy Bidois, who previously spent time as head chef at Besk at Highgate's Mexican joint, el Publico.

Close up of tostada with chicken, avocado and herbs
Chicken tinga, avocado & pico de gallo tostada $12

We’ve been to Besk a handful of times and el Publico before, enjoying food at both. Naturally we got pretty excited for the food here after hearing about Chef Tommy's hospo history.

Close up of fried fish taco
Baja fish, cabbage & tomatillo salsa verde tacos $16

You can probably tell what we're foreshadowing.. πŸ˜…

Close up of pork taco with grilled pineapple
Achiote pork, roast pineapple & chipotle mayo tacos $16

As much as we tried to enjoy the food - we felt that most dishes, with the exception of the beef birria tacos feel short. For our tastes, most of the dishes lacked a little on the flavour and seasoning side. Perhaps we visited on an off night.. ☹️.

Birria beef tacos, Oxacan cheese & consomme $16

The meaty, beefy (sorry I had to), birria tacos was the star of the show though. We'd come back for these!
