‌‌The Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Ageto Ramen

Ageto Ramen is one of the outlets operating in Canning Vale's recently resurrected Tan's Food Court. We've heard through the grapevine that some ex-Hakata Gensuke chefs head up this place as well - which got us interested.

Our last visit to Tan's Food Court was in November 2019. And since then, the spacious food court has barely changed at all. It was pretty empty when we dropped in over the weekend - with the exception of another table.

The ramen lived up to our expectations - quality of which closely resembles what we'd expect from Hakata Gensuke. Between Paige and I, the kuro garlic was our favourite. For novelty sake, I tried the matcha ramen which made for an interesting bowl of ramen. The matcha flavour was strong with this bowl.

Tan's Food Court is around 5 minutes from where we live and the pricing here is verrrryyy competitive, so we'll definitely back. We're looking forward to trying out more things on their menu!

Stay tuned on Instagram for our full thoughts.

What We Ate 🍴

Fraser's Restaurant

My end of year Christmas lunch was held at Fraser's Restaurant. The first and last time I was here was probably in 2014 or 2015 - when I used to work as a wedding booth attendant.

Yellowfin Tuna Tartare $36 - umeboshi infused sesame seeds, jalapenos & citrus soy

The restaurant itself is situated right in the middle of King's Park, making for some excellent views.

Top down shot of grilled eggplant with grilled snapper
Grilled Goldband Snapper Fillet $54 - caponata, pinenuts, eggplant & parsley oil

I'm normally a little apprehensive of restaurants in nice locations (typically the food can be a miss, with the "hit" being the location), but I'm glad to say the food here was good!

Creme Brulee $18 - vanilla bean & pistachio biscotti

Madalena's Bar

Congrats to the team here on recently winning the West Australian Good Food Guide's restaurant of the year!

To date, Madalena's Bar is one of Paige and I's favourite place to dine - one of the places we try return to a couple times a year.

Wadjemup yellowfin tuna, confit pepitas, ajo blanco $30

My only complaint? The majority of the food is fairly light in nature. Those with larger appetites might need a second (or third) dinner afterwards (as you'll soon see).

Al Pastor

My second dinner after Madalena's Bar involved two tacos from Al Pastor. After some slightly disappointing tacos at Tommy's Taco's a couple weeks back - these were the redemption tacos I so craved.

Baja fish tacos $20 - battered flathead fillets, guacamole salsa, pickled red cabbage, aioli , red onion & coriander

They hit the spot!

Top down shot of birria tacos with a side of consomme
Birria beef tacos $20 - slow braised beef, cheddar blend, red onion, coriander & braising consume

Bobaboba (Myaree)

Hand holding plastic bottle with Bobaboba written in it, filled with a crushed guava drink
Pink guava crush $7.9 (+$1 for bottle)

Anddd to wrap up a night of eating, a friend and I popped into Bobaboba in Myaree, following our bites at Madalena's and Al Pastor. I'm a little caffeine intolerant, so I opted for the pink guava crush (inb4 this actually had tea in it 🙈) in one of their cool plastic bottles.
