β€Œβ€ŒThe Best Thing We Ate ⭐️

Bagel O Delicatessen

Daytime shot of Bagel O Delicatessen showing their outdoors seating area

The best thing we ate this week was Bagel O's Lox bagel. The classic cream cheese and bagel pairing wasπŸ‘Œ. Admittedly, I never really enjoyed Bagel O's during my past two visits when I was recovering from a cold.. that totally destroyed my taste buds. For months.

So I was pretty happy to finally enjoy the flavours here during last weekend's visit.

Top down shot of bagel with cream cheese, salmon and tomato
LOX $20 - House cured salmon, dill cream cheese, capers, red onion, and tomato

Despite loving Cubano sandwiches (we miss Selli's in Canberra, where we had our first ever Cubano), we found Bagel O's Cubano a miss. The pork tasted a little under seasoned for our liking. And yes, we did make sure to eat this one first - knowing that the LOX would be saltier and punchier in flavour.

Top down shot of bagel with roast pork, ham, cheese, pickles, mustard, lettuce and dill
CUBANO $18 - Mojo roast pork, Deli ham, Swiss cheese, Pickles, Mustard, Iceberg lettuce, Dill mayo

Looking forward to going back! Vibes here are also always fun and friendly.

What We Ate 🍴

Yip Bamboo Noodles

Our second time to Yip resulted in a.. 40-45 minute ish wait. Food did come out pretty quickly though.

Thick egg noodles with handmade wontons $16.7

The star of the show were Paige's thick egg noodles that she ordered with wontons (not pictured).

Top down of chilli pan mee with anchovies, bok choy and noodles
Chilli pan mee $16.8

My chilli pan mee was alright despite the noodles being a little clumpy and stuck together. The spice on this is probably pushing it for what I'd normally get (four chillis were signposted next to this on the menu πŸ˜‚). Still probably prefer Two Hands' interpretation of pan mee.

Pietro Gelateria

Hand holding cup of gelato with spoon
Dark chocolate gelato $6.1

Wrapping up a night in Vic Park, I dropped into Pietro Gelateria to grab a scoop of their dark chocolate. To date - probably my favourite scoop of chocolate gelato in Perth.

If you haven't already, check out our article on Pietro Gelateria.

Pietro Gelateria (East Victoria Park, Inglewood & Northbridge)
A Sicilian gelateria with a focus on fresh, local produce offering constantly changing flavours.

BurgerFreak

I've been craving the burgers at BurgerFreak for the longest time (especially their big boy burger - The Nightmare). This time around I bit the bullet and.. tried something different.

Close up of burger with smashed patty, melted cheese and prawns
Children of the Prawn $27 - smash patty, cajun popcorn prawns, garlic cream sauce pour-over, double American cheese, B&B pickles, lemon herb mayo, lettuce, fresh herbs & lemon

The burger didn't kurb my cravings for a big boy burger, but was still delicious. On the side, was garlic cream sauce pour-over. It reminded me of a creamy clam chowder - especially when paired with the prawns and lemon wedge. But beefy. Probably not a burger I'd get again, but hats off to the folks at BurgerFreak offering other land and sea proteins in their burgers.
