WEEKLY DIGEST 098 | 22 MAR 2024
Back to the regular content routine.
Ok, part 2 of our Japan journeys will be sent out next week on Good Friday as I'm still getting back into the Pekopeko content routine (writing this newsletter probably takes in total.. 2-3 hours all up π ).
With next weekend's long loong weekend coming up, I'm hoping to smash out some content for this blog too.
Moving onto food. We don't have much planned for food this weekend - it'll be a "eh let's just eat what we feel like" type of week. The 10th Perth Japan Festival is on this weekend, so we might drop in while we're in the city this Saturday.
This week we ate
Rodzilla
Marubang
Milky Lane
Social Manna
Suzie's Makan Place

ββThe Best Thing We Ate βοΈ
Rodzilla
Thank you to the kind folks at Rodzilla (shout out to David and Angela) for extending their warm hospitality to us β€οΈ. We were away for their grand opening as we were in Japan during the time, but finally were able to drop in last week to check it out.
In the next couple of weeks, we'll go in-depth on Rodzilla, a fried skewer concept brought to you by the same folks behind bobaboba and Mama Mochi.
After feasting on a bunch of their flavourful savoury sticks, of course we had to finish on something sweet. That's were the fried mantou came deliciously in clutch!
What We Ate π΄
Marubang
For a family birthday, we popped into Marubang for KBBQ. Of the dozen or so times we've dined here, it was our first time having charcoal BBQ inside.
We also noticed a change in music. No longer was upbeat K-pop playing from speakers, but rather, less high BPM music, giving the place a bit of an elevated feeling (I'm all for having chill music played on the weekdays and then more energetic music being played on the weekend).
Does anyone know if they've changed ownership since? The change in music threw us off! Marubang also seem to have a revamped website.
Milky Lane
Man, Curtin Exchange's food scene is crazy. It beats what we had at UWA back in the day (and I'm not even that old). There's also a Japanese place, Italian place and even Pretzel has opened up on campus.
The busiest venue in Curtin's dining precinct last Friday night, was Milky Lane. As expected, I opted for their biggest burger. I don't think it satisfied my "fk off big burger" craving I've had for months, so I guess I'll have to drop into BurgerFreak at some point..
Social Manna
Social Manna's reuben sandwich has been on my radar for some time. It was priced at $13 - a steal*.
It doesn't dethrone my favourite reuben - dished up by Artem Coffee, but for $13, I think it was a reasonable value proposition and a tasty eat.
*I can't remember the exact price.
Suzie's Makan Place
Malaysian food of all sorts was arguably one of the cuisines we missed most while in Japan. I've harped on enough about Suzie's Makan Place in these newsletters. Food was delicious as always.
Dessert Garden
After eating probably our month's worth of yeet hay (η±ζ°£) in a single sitting (we'd do it again cause Rodzilla was delicious), we dropped into Dessert Garden to try out their new special.
Luckily, their grape tea crushed ice was a fruity and refreshing way to cleanse our palate. Stay tuned for our upcoming post on Instagram.
