Mellow Coffee
Last week, we were invited to dine at Mellow Coffee. Mellow Coffee is owned and operated by TJ - a Korean chef with over 10+ years in hospitality. In addition to serving brunch favourites, Mellow's menu also features a number of Korean influenced dishes.
Our eat of the week is Mellow Coffee's buldak wings - essentially lollipop chicken wings with cheese fondue. Buldak means "fire chicken" in Korean - so we opted for a non-spicy version of this (especially given the fact Paige and I aren't ones to chase spice).
We absolutely loved the cheese fondue which was light and was ingeniously kept warm using a small candle. Pickled radish helped to cleanse the palette between each bite.
The other dish we ordered was Mellow's bulgogi quesadilla. Eating this brought back memories of an old favourite - Mix Perth. Mix Perth used to be a small Korean Mexican outlet located in Equus Arcade which we used to frequent throughout our university days. The owners have since moved back to Korea.
The bulgolgi quesadillas where well balanced - where each cheesy, meaty bite was met with a hint of spice from the jalapeΓ±os.
Mellow also uniquely offers hand crafted soda which is available to enjoy dine-in, or served to-go in sealed aluminium cans. At time of writing, Mellow have a buy 3 get 1 free offer for their hand crafted sodas.
Thank you TJ for the hospitality and Ruby for the lovely service.
π΄ What We Ate
Any Dining
We went to the VIP launch of Any Dining last week. Thanks to @perth_gram for extending the invite.
Any Dining is hidden away on Queen St and offers a "chefs table" dining experience - where creations are made, finished and presented directly to the customers, in a fully open galley kitchen. The venue is divided up into a casual bar area with booths and the dining room.
We found the menu to feature the types of dishes found in Modern Australian restaurants or wine bars, with a sprinkling of Asian elements (bonito, kosho, yuzu and beef tendon - to name a few). We're generally not big fans of food with Asian fusion elements, as most of the time we think it fails in execution (e.g. too many elements mixed together, for the sake of it) and doesn't do justice to the food.
Having said that, Any Dining, we think, is probably one of the very few restaurants serving up dishes with Asian elements, that we enjoy.
Props to head chef Josh Gray (ex- Tiny's & Rockpool) for serving up some delicious bites.
The raw beef (tartare) served on a potato pave was one of our favourites for the night.
The pigs cheek, white soy, fermented chilli & bonito buns reminded us of something we'd have at dim sum (char siew bao).
The yuzu cheesecake was simple and tasty.
We're got Any Dining booked in for dinner next week. Looking forward to exploring their menu further!
Two Hands Noodle House
Two Hands Noodle House is on our regular rotation for when we crave Malaysian food.
Our go to order is their Sarawak kolo mee or their dry pan mian.
On occasion, we'll also order their mee goreng. Note Two Hands' mee goreng runs on the slightly sweet side.
Not pictured is their pork pineapple fried rice ($12.5) which we also ordered. Their fried rice was lightly charred and very tasty, and you can choose between pork or chicken.
Our friend ordered the Two Hands special deal - which looked to be of pretty good value.
Spritz Spizzicheria
We've been visiting Spritz Spizzicheria for over three years and have yet to be served a bad meal. Spritz is one of our favourite Italian restaurants in Perth.
"When in Rome, do as the Romans do"
We love each of their spritz is served with a mini charcuterie board. Be sure to look forward to the theatrical manner that manager Mario presents your spritz!
